The Dog Park is a dynamic place, thanks to its volunteers, SCRAPS staff and Spokane County Parks workers. If you haven’t visited recently, a lot has changed. Take a look!

Parking By Entrance Available Again

Road improvements were completed in early Spring 2007 and the paved parking lot adjacent to the main entrance is available once again.

'The Bowl' Re-Opens As a Greener Pasture

The open field known as “The Bowl” was re-opened during the second week of June for romping, chasing and fetching. This large area within the Dog Park, which saw a lot of heavy use last fall, was closed for several months by the Parks Department to give the grass a chance to recover.

Graveled Paths Enhance Wooded Area

Gravel pathways that gently wind and intertwine make walks in the wooded area a serene experience. If your dog – or you – needs a calm time out, escape to the woods and walk these beautiful shaded trails.

Second Water Fountain Installed

A second water station was added this spring. It is located next to the sidewalk at the edge of the wooded area. There is a slot for your much-appreciated donations right above the faucet at each water station. (The water is not for human consumption. Park patrons need to bring their own beverages.)

Agility Equipment Added

Two sections of plastic sewer pipe and a hurdle were added to the wooded area of the park in May. Each section of pipe is 24 inches in diameter and about 54 inches in length – ideal for going up, over, around and through. The hurdle is adjustable to challenge the jumping ability of any size dog.

New Picnic Table Has Roof

The park now has a third covered picnic table, which was installed at the far end of the woods this spring. The original two covered shelters are located near the entrance.

Plastic Bags Needed For Clean-Up

You can help keep our Dog Park sanitary and enjoyable by remembering your responsibility for clean-up. Waste disposal tools and receptacles are handy whenever and wherever you need them. You will find plastic bags as well as racks and shovels at several locations throughout the park: There are two vertical PVC pipes in the wooded area that dispense plastic bags as well as a pre-loaded dispenser near the main entrance. “Dog pots” (waste receptacles) are next to the dispensers.

Dog Park patrons are encouraged to bring medium-sized plastic bags for the tube dispensers. This is a great way to help lower costs for the Dog Park and re-use bags that you might otherwise throw away. Remember, if you don’t recycle it, re-use it!
