Our first off-leash dog park is now open!

The first Spokane County dog park opened October 4, 2006. A collaborative effort between Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) and the County’s Parks and Recreation Department, the park is run by dog-loving volunteers and funded solely by donations. We are always in need of more volunteers and money! Want to get involved?

The 3.5-acre park is part of what once was a freeway rest stop. It is next to Interstate 90 and less than half a mile east of the Washington/Idaho border, adjacent to Milepost 1 of the Centennial Trail. The area is now called Gateway Park and includes a visitors center operated by the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The park has much to offer the dog-loving community:

  • Open year-around, dawn to dusk
  • Restrooms for people and a drinking fountain for dogs (not available during winter months)
  • Ample parking
  • Double-gated park entrance and six-foot, chain-link perimeter fence
  • Grassy area for playing fetch and a wooded, natural area for walking
  • Paved path surrounding the grassy area makes the park wheelchair accessible
  • For cleaning up after your pet, sanitary plastic bags and waste receptacles are conveniently located within the park
  • Picnic tables (two are covered) inside the park

Directions

On Interstate 90, look for the green highway sign marked "State Line – Exit 299." After exiting, drive towards the Spokane River following the blue "Visitor Info" signs north then east to Spokane Bridge Road and the parking lot.
